Bitcoin Rainbow Chart
New: Bitcoin Price History by Year
Compare every year's BTC price on one chart with per-year start, end, average, and halving cycle context.
About this chart
The Bitcoin Rainbow Chart: a logarithmic regression of the long-term price trend with color bands above and below it. It is a visual heuristic for market cycles, not a forecast.
How to read it
- Price in the lower (blue and green) bands has historically been relatively cheap versus the long-term trend; upper (orange and red) bands relatively expensive.
- Bands widen over time on a log scale, so equal color distances mean larger dollar ranges later.
- Treat it as context alongside mining fundamentals such as hashprice and shutdown prices, not as a trading signal.

Bitcoin Rainbow Chart FAQ
What is the Bitcoin Rainbow Chart?+
The Bitcoin Rainbow Chart overlays 10 color-coded sentiment bands on a logarithmic regression fitted to Bitcoin's four historical halving prices. It helps visualize whether Bitcoin is overvalued, fairly valued, or undervalued relative to its long-term growth trend.
How is the Rainbow Chart regression calculated?+
The Halving-Price Regression (HPR) model uses Ordinary Least Squares to fit halving-date closing prices from 2012 ($12.33), 2016 ($651.94), 2020 ($8,591.65), and 2024 ($63,846.00). The resulting formula is log₁₀(Price) = 2.7086 × ln(days_since_genesis) − 18.600.
What do the Rainbow Chart colors mean?+
From top to bottom: dark red = Maximum Bubble Territory, red = Sell Seriously, orange = FOMO Intensifies, amber = Is this a bubble?, yellow = HODL!, lime = Still Cheap, green = Accumulate, teal = BUY!, blue = Basically a Fire Sale, dark blue = Bitcoin is dead. The current band indicates market sentiment relative to the long-term trend.
Is the Rainbow Chart a reliable price predictor?+
The Rainbow Chart is a visualization tool, not a financial prediction model. It provides historical context by showing where Bitcoin's price sits relative to its long-term logarithmic growth trend. Past performance does not guarantee future results, and the model assumes continued logarithmic adoption.
Why does the Rainbow Chart use halving dates for calibration?+
Halvings are the most predictable and impactful events in Bitcoin's economic model, cutting new supply by 50% roughly every four years. Fitting the regression to halving-date prices anchors the model to fundamental supply-side economics rather than speculative peaks or troughs.
How wide are the Rainbow Chart bands?+
Each of the 10 bands spans 0.08 log₁₀ units in price space, meaning each band boundary is roughly 20% apart in price terms. The top band starts +0.40 log₁₀ units above the fair value regression line, giving a total range of 0.80 log₁₀ units (about 6.3× price ratio from bottom to top).
