About This Calculator

The Break-Even Calculator determines how long it will take to recover your initial investment in mining hardware, considering basic operational costs and current market conditions.

Pros:

  • Clear timeline for investment recovery
  • Considers essential cost factors
  • Helps in hardware purchase decisions

Cons:

  • Assumes constant Bitcoin price
  • Models the April 2028 subsidy halving
  • Assumes constant network difficulty
  • Basic cost model only
  • Market volatility not considered

Mathematical Equations

Daily BTC Revenue

Hash Rate in H/s = Hash Rate (TH/s) × 10¹²
Network Hash Rate = (Difficulty × 2³²) / 600
BTC per Day = (Hash Rate in H/s / Network Hash Rate) × 144 × (Block Subsidy + Avg Fees per Block, default 0.03 BTC)
Daily Revenue = BTC per Day × Bitcoin Price

Daily Costs

Daily Power Cost = (Power Consumption × 24 × Electricity Cost) / 1000
Daily Pool Fees = Daily Revenue × (Pool Fees % / 100)

Daily Profit

Daily Profit = Daily Revenue - Daily Power Cost - Daily Pool Fees

Break-Even Period

Each month: difficulty × (1 + 2%)^month, subsidy halves in April 2028, months with revenue < power cost are paused
Break-Even Day = First day cumulative profit recovers hardware cost (10-year maximum horizon)
