About the Pool Payout Strategy Simulator

Different mining pools use different compensation methods, each with distinct risk/reward tradeoffs. This simulator runs Monte Carlo simulations to compare how PPS, FPPS, PPLNS, and Proportional payouts affect your expected earnings, income variance, and worst/best case outcomes over time.

Payout Methods

  • PPS: Fixed pay per share. Pool absorbs luck risk. Excludes tx fees. Most stable.
  • FPPS: PPS + estimated transaction fees. Slightly higher earnings, still stable.
  • PPLNS: Pays based on recent pool luck. Moderate variance; same long-run expected value as other methods.
  • Proportional: Pays per round contribution. Highest variance, mirrors raw mining luck.

Key Statistics

  • Coefficient of Variation (CV): Std dev / mean — lower = more predictable income.
  • P5 / P95: 5th and 95th percentile monthly earnings — your realistic range.
  • Cumulative chart: Shows how luck-based methods converge to (or diverge from) PPS over time.

Mathematical Equations

Base Daily BTC (PPS)

BTC/day = (H / NH) × 144 × R

H = miner hashrate (H/s), NH = network hashrate, R = block reward. FPPS adds transaction fees to R.

Variance Modeling

σ = E[daily] × Vmethod

PPS and FPPS pay a fixed rate per share, so your payout has no luck variance (the pool absorbs it). PPLNS and Proportional swing with the pool's block-finding luck, modeled as Poisson for a pool with ~10% of network hashrate — smaller pools swing more.

Monte Carlo Simulation

Eₜ ~ N(μ, σ²) for each day t

Daily earnings are drawn from a normal distribution. Multiple simulations are averaged to produce stable expected outcomes.

Coefficient of Variation

CV = σ / μ

Dimensionless measure of income predictability. Lower CV = more consistent daily payouts. Critical for cash flow planning.
